LM Review of Mapping Police Violence

Cultural Impact

“Mapping Police Violence” not only looks at the violence in American law enforcement, but racist tendencies within the data that show prejudice in our society. An example stat currently listed on the project as of October 27, 2025, is that “Black people are 2.8x more likely to be killed by police than white people in the U.S.” The racial divide in our country has continuously deteriorated our sense of community through the years, evident in many previous cultural aspects and characters.

Events and systems such as Slavery, Racial Segregation/Jim Crow Laws, and America’s rapid denial of Native American culture during expansion have left a trail of hate and disconnect in our “United States.” From the widespread “BLM” protests after the killing of George Floyd to the white supremacy of groups like the KKK, diversity hasn’t presented itself in a way we hoped.

Campaign Zero provides coverage of deaths by state, year/month/week/day, even down to specific names of those who have been victims of these crimes. These personal accounts make it relatable to any audience, painting a broken picture of our “United” country.
