The website we chose is an open forum describing the experiences surrounding Jewish families during the Holocaust. There stories were shared to help us learn from the past and never let such horrors happen again. The holocaust was a devastating experience for most especially those of the Jewish decent or back round.
How can holocaust relate to the values in digital humanities?

The Holocaust was one of the most tragic events in history that was one of the most unveiling sights of pure evil. Those inflicted by this pain had to endure lots of horrific endeavors, therefore their values had to be in line. The values of digital humanities are Openness, Collaboration, Experimentation, and Connectedness. All of these values can connect to our studies of the holocaust but the one I would like to focus on is openness. Openness can be a clear and obvious value taken place in holocaust studies. For instance, all over every page especially the bottom it holds pieces of information that is shared on this online forum. The holocaust studies would not be as powerful as it is without sharing the stories of those who went through such tragedy first hand. It is a blessing that people are willing to be this open about there connections going through this horrific time. I once heard a quote “There are no mistakes there is only learning” I heard this and thought without openness how could we learn. We would never be able to prevent such horrors again.

This is an image of a group of seven women standing and posing in a garden – superimposed on a portrait of a woman inscribed in an oval. This image stuck out to me because of all the pain and turmoil these women went through. Not only was the time period bad for jews but it was also not a good place for the women in that environment were mistreated. We wouldn’t have this picture or there story if someone did not have the openness to share it
“There are no mistakes, only lessons to be learned.”
– Barbara Streisand
When hearing this quote you realize without openness we would never be able to learn from our mistakes or past experiences never the less, showing without openness follows incompetence. The world can be a much better place if people used the values used of these people with their ability.
