Goal 1
Torn Apart’s goal is to bring together digital tools to equip broad social awareness. The audience for this goal is the population uninformed about the measures ICE is taking to separate families at the border. This goal connects to digital humanities because they are spreading awareness about families being seperated by immigration enforcement, through an easily understandable visual, a tool called digital mapping. Reporting the movements of seperated families with a digital tool in an effort to spread awareness to end unfair treatment of others, is an example of how Torn Apart connects to digital humanities.
Goal 2
Torn Apart’s second goal is to mobilize humanities faculties, libraries, and students with relevant language, archival, technical, and social expertise to nimbly produce curated and applied knowledge. The audience for this goal is students and anyone interested in being educated about social inequalities, because in order for change to be made, awareness has to be spread first. This links to digital humanities because it reflects the field’s emphasis on collaboration, interdisciplinary work, and public engagement. By bringing together humanities scholars, librarians, and students with technical and social expertise, Torn Apart shows how digital humanities uses teamwork across fields to create and share knowledge in new, practical ways. Combining research, data, and technology to address urgent social issues is a direct example of digital humanities practice.
