Goals

Selfiecity as a project wanted to see the effect social media has on the world, and how all people of all different cities around the world take selfies. Selfiecity stated “Investigating the style of self-portraits (selfies) in five cities across the world” is what they wanted to analyze. They wanted to see how different cultures, genders, and ages take selfies to see the difference but similarities within us all over the world. Dr. Lev Manovich and his team wanted to showcase the cultures of these cities while relating everyone to taking selfies. The audience being older their goal is to explain the selfie phenomenon to older people who may not understand or know about it. Manovich and his team do not document this as him and him and his team are also older. In digital humanities, the humanities aspect relates to the goals of Selfiecity representing cultures. The goal of this project aims to identify trends and insights in self-representation across diverse global communities. The Selfiecity project showcasing their digital tools and data, fits into the data best practice of digital humanities.
