The WCUPA Comics in the Special Collections project is an attempt to accurately catalogue the Adler, J. Peter. Comic Book Collection, currently residing in the FHG Special Collections, in a more user-friendly way. Donated in memory of Peter J. Adler, son of former WCU President Madeline Wing Adler, it contains 264 volumes and issues of comics across many genres and publishers.
As it stands the current system is clunky, hard to navigate, and missing information. The existing collection is only collated to the folder level, there is no accurate detailed information on an item level. This project seeks to create an alternative database, one that collects title, publication date, author, artist, inker, colorist, and a picture of the front cover of each issue in the collection.
This project is significant insofar as it will make information that is technically publicly available, just hard to get, easier to get. Alongside this, it will provide more information for students about what is actually in this part of the university’s collection.
