Project Results

The Unsilencing Slavery project aims to shape how audiences understand the history of slavery at The Rose Hall Plantation. By making the lives of the enslaved visible through names, records, and stories, the project connects its audience of descendants directly to its core goals of remembrance, truth-telling, and ethical representation.

The result is shown on the project with the culmination being the beautiful flower representing each slave with specific details about their life.

Relatives and descendants of the enslaved at Rose Hall will hopefully see them as real people with interests and aspirations, rather than just a number. They’ll understand the reality of The Rose Hall Plantation instead of the folklore and fantasies those giving tours in modern day would like to give credence to.
