Godot Engine:
Godot is an open source (meaning anyone can use and access it’s for free) game engine supporting both 2D and 3D games. A game engine is a piece of software that gives you the tools to build video games without having to create every system from scratch. Without a game engine necessities in such a rendering graphics, physics, collision detection, input handling and much more would have to be programmed by hand, which is a huge, difficult and time consuming task. Building these systems from scratch takes hundreds, maybe even thousands of hours and requires creating reusable programed structures and algorithms that are relatively bugless as they are the foundation for the games being built along with them. Poorly designed physics systems or graphics and lighting rendering can render a game completely unbuildable. Godot engine supplies developers these systems and allows them to build their game on top of them and edit them as they see fit. Godot began development in 2001, becoming open source in 2014. Unlike, many powerful game engines which are usually started in America, Godot was originally developed in Argentine by Juan Linietsky and Ariel Manzur. Before it’s public release, it was created as an in-house tool to be used only by the developers working with the game development company Linietsky and Manzur were a part of. In 2014, the engine would release publicly as an open source project and would continue to be developed by Linietsky and Manzur along with the community that would form around the engine. Godot is currently on version 4.7.2, with their most recently big feature being the ability to use the engine to develop and launch games entirely on android.
