Goals

Connecting Computer Science to Digital Humanities

Both Computer Science and Digital Humanities have own individual, discipline specifical goals, while also having connecting and overlapping goals.

Goals of Each Discipline

Computer Science

The main goal of Computer Science is to use computer technology to solve problems. Computer scientists develop software, algorithms, databases and other systems to improve task efficiency in a number of different areas and create new ways for people to interact and benefit from technology. Computer science also aims to improve upon existing technology and increase it’s efficiency, in turn helping its users.

Goals of Digital Humanities

Digital Humanities aims to use technology to study and understand subjects related to human culture. Its goals can include preserving historical materials digitally, analyzing digital artifacts and studying the effect of technology on humanity’s culture.

Shared Goals

Although Computer Science and Digital Humanities have different goals, they share several overlapping ones. Both fields goals are to use technology to solve problems, explore new and creative ideas and work digitally with information. Computer science wants to create digital tools. Digital Humanities wants to takes those tools and analyze their cultural impact or use them to study other humanities fields.

The Goal of this Project

The goal for this project is to show how Computer Science and Digital Humanities are connected. This website aims to explain and explore what the two fields are and what they do and connect the two. I aim to use video games as the strongest example of a connection between the two fields as they combine the technical pieces from Computer Science and artistic and cultural aspects from Digital Humanities.
