Values

Computer Science and Digital Humanities have overlapping values.

  1. Collaboration and Teamwork – Both fields value with working with others from inside and outside of their fields. Computer Science project often require teams of programmer, designers and researches that all play different and important roles in development of projects. Digital Humanities also involves calling in collaborators as for example, a digital humanities expert working on creating a interactive historical website may call in a historical expert to verify and provide accurate information or may call in a programming expert to aid in the creation of digital elements. Teamwork is important in both of these fields collaboration to ensure that all parties and collaborators work together well.
  2. Innovation – Both fields find new ways to solve problems. A computer scientist may see a problem and create a new system or application to solve it or make solving it easier. A digital humanities expert may see a new piece of technology and create a new way to use it to study or present cultural research. Both of the fields require an expert to be able to first identify a goal and then create a solution.
  3. Creativity – We previously establish that both fields value innovation. This innovation goes hand and hand with creativity. When solving a problem a computer scientist my need to use their creativity to design a new software or find an elusive solution to a problem, while a digital humanities expert may need to brainstorm a new way to interpret new or old information or think of a way to present it in a better way.
