One value that is abundantly clear that SSD uses within their project is DIY. Their entire project is based on the goal of providing ways for people to be able to defend themselves online. Throughout the project, they teach people how to be able to identify security risks and use some very useful tools online so they could protect themselves on their own. SSD wants to make sure that people are able to protect themselves with their own skills, and being able to do things on your own is the whole idea of DIY.
This value connects back to the digital humanities value of experimentation. While DIY is all about doing things yourself, it is also about trying new things and seeing what works for you and what doesn’t. This is what experimentation is, being able to accept that something failed, trying something different, and making sure that it continues to work repeatedly.
