Goals

One goal of art history is to preserve cultural artifacts, as these artifacts are crucial in understanding the history and social significance of the art. In this project, photographic works are preserved through the website as well as many publications where these photographs are digitally preserved but also studied to understand and appreciate the historical and cultural context of Mali’s visual history. This goal aligns with the DH goal of providing access to and sharing cultural data, as a digital platform is used to provide access to these photographs to a larger audience beyond a physical museum or history book. Through the digitization of these photos, these cultural artifacts can be preserved for future generations, all while being accessible for research, study and other forms of public use.
