Goals of The Secret Annex
‘The VR tour gives people all around the world the opportunity to explore Anne Frank’s hiding place as it was in July 1942 to August 1944, the period when Anne Frank was forced into hiding and wrote her diary. The tour offers an immersive experience.’
Quote from Ronald Leopold, executive director of the Anne Frank House about the release of the VR tour.

“This project helps to bring Anne Frank’s life story to the attention of people all over the world,”
Quote from Ronald Leopold about the launch of the VR tour.
One of the main goals of the virtual tour on the website and the VR version is to allow for the Secret Annex to be more accessible to everyone. The VR version is free to get and the tour on the website is also free.
The VR tour is “available in seven different languages” including English and Dutch.
Until 2024, the VR tour was even installed at the museum in Amsterdam to “enable visitors with restricted mobility to see the Secret Annex.”
The VR tour was also installed at other places around the world like “the Anne Frank Zentrum in Berlin and Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect in New York” to provide more opportunities for people to see the Secret Annex.
Is It Compatible?
I think that the goal of the Anne Frank House is very compatible with the “publish, provide access, to, and share cultural data” goal from Digital Humanities. The virtual tour of the Secret Annex is used and promoted to allow everyone around the world to have a chance to see the Secret Annex for themselves. So, the virtual tour allows for the cultural data of the Secret Annex and what it looked like when Anne and her family were hiding to be accessed and shared all across the world.
