This page will assess the methodology used by What America Ate and the transparency of the project. The creators of this project want to know what America ate during and the Great Depression. The project’s methods appear to be digitizing cookbooks, transcribing recipes, advertising, and photographs. They take all these resources from around the country and combine all them for users to browse and explore. This is community transcription. We know that not all of the information on this project is not from one place. There is also an interactive map. The purpose of this map is to click on a region and the map will tell you what this region ate during the Great Depression. The regions also show you advertising.

Even though the project includes all of that information, the methodology and transparency of the project are still unclear. They don’t tell you exactly how they got all the information they did. There isn’t much background research making the project non transparent.
