The Values of The American Yawp

The American Yawp has two main core digital humanities’ values prominent in their work; openness and collaboration.

Openness is the idea of being open for the public to freely use. The American Yawp is an open source, a person is able to use it for free, download it, distribute it and modify it to their needs. Within their about page, it says “The project is formally operated under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International (CC-BY-SA) License and is designed to meet the standards of a “Free Cultural Work.”

The American Yawp is a large team of people who contributed to building the website and providing historical information. A long list of people who were editors, editorial advisors, digital content advisors, chapter editors, media curators, and contributors can be found on the website. The digital humanities’ value collaboration is huge in this because the American Yawp is collaboratively built, open American history textbook.
