The American Yawp is DH project that was created in 2014 by Joseph Locke and Ben Wright as an alternative to the standard American History Textbook.
The American Yawp is open sourced, meaning those who want to comment on specific text, are free to do so. These comments are then analyzed by one of the many scholars who curate the site, and they decide whether or not a valid contribution was made to the text. This practice of allowing others to contribute to the text makes for a textbook that does not follow a single narrative, but rather a multitude of narratives.
Significance

Since The American Yawp is filled with a host of accounts surrounding American history, it can tell a story that may have never been told before, and do so on a large scale. Its ability to be open-sourced and free makes it highly accessible to scholars of any age and financial standing.
