The American Yawp, the free online American History Textbook, was designed explicitly for college-level history courses. It has two primary demographics.
Students
Many students find the Yawp an integral aid in their college experience. Being collaboratively built, it has a feel that appeals heavily to those who wish for a more traditional textbook over active-learning exercises in classes.
Teachers of History
Conversely, many teachers are flocking to the Yawp. Designed with instruction in mind, the website offers a skeleton syllabus for classes that educators can edit and build off of. Like the text of the website itself, the curriculum is open source, and free for anyone to use.
