StoryCorps
StoryCorps is a digital archive that preserves diverse stories and shares them online. Stories are collected through interviews, and are stored at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Many stories are displayed at the StoryCorps website, but the full collection can only be accessed by visiting the Library of Congress, or any library across the country partnered with the project. Researchers must send requests to the American Folklife Center. Those looking to be interviewed by StoryCorps can sign up for an appointment to interview at one of several tour locations. WC Drag Queens and StoryCorps both crowdsource stories, but WC Drag Queens focuses its stories to a specific area instead of collecting stories across the country. The public can upload their artifacts directly to the WC Drag Queens archive, but must go through an interviewing process to submit to StoryCorps.
Ensemble @ Yale
Ensemble @ Yale attempts to crowdsource the history of theater at Yale University. The project invites the public to transcribe information about past performances of the school’s theater program, such as titles of plays, dates, and directors. Anyone can transcribe data after making an account with the project site. The project is inspired by Ensemble, a project by the New York Public Library which invites the public to transcribe data from 20th century performances. Like WC Drag Queens, Ensemble @ Yale focuses its history on a specific topic (performance arts) and a specific region (Yale). However, the project has already compiled the artifacts and asks the public to transcribe them, whereas WC Drag Queens asks the public to provide the artifacts themselves.
