Originally, the project was meant to focus on genres and sales to evaluate the book readers’ interests. However, overtime they had discovered that genre is more of a social construct, and that there are many ways to interpret it.
So they switched the approach of the project to focus more on concentrating on common genre tag words used to describe and categorize books. Now, the visualization project we know today focuses on connections from two sides: one to showcase the tags under a book, and the other to see what books are under a tag.
