Linked Jazz (Overview)

Linked Jazz is a research project that focuses on uncovering the connections between the lives of professional jazz artists. Utilizing various documents and data from Hamilton College, Rutgers, Smithsonian, UCLA and the University of Michigan, Linked Jazz connects linked open data technologies to digital cultural heritage materials. In addition, Linked Jazz helps to develop broadly applicable tools and methods for Linked Open Data while providing interviews and documentation of the hidden connections.

Within importance, Linked Jazz showcases the wide area of cultural heritage and the vast areas of connectivity, connecting best with DH through the use of digital online tools. Today, the project continues to grow with updates and news.

Linked Jazz is ran by Project Director M. Christina Pattuelli, an associate professor at the School of Information Science that researches information organization, applicable information systems through knowledge representation principles and methods and semantic web technologies applied to cultural heritage resources.

Beginning on June 7th, 2012, Technical Director Matt Miller from the New York Public Library Labs developed a new visualization tool that allowed users to view the networks of Jazz artists.

Currently, Linked Jazz is located at the Pratt Institute School of Library Information Science in New York, NY. Today, the website serves as a wide visualization of the social connections of jazz musicians.
