The data featured on Linked Jazz is made from a variety of documents and transcripts featured on Wikipedia (specifically the database version of wikipedia) from different jazz related people. The sources provided from Wikipedia are from schools such as Hamilton College, Rutgers, Smithsonian, UCLA and the University of Michigan. The format of this data are text-based triples filtered through a transcript analyzer.
At the start, names found from Wikipedia transcripts and documents (around 9300 names) are converted into URIs (Uniform Resource Identifier) that list the musician’s name. The transcript analyzer breaks down the URIs and identifies connections if a musician is mentioned in another musician’s URI.

The transcript analyzer converts the relationship into an RDF triple to be used on Linked Jazz. A triple is made from 3 relationships, Item 1 is a musician name, Item 2 is another musician name, and Item 3 is the relationship between the 2 musicians based on the location of the names. These triples are converted into human-readable URIs that are displayed visually with the use of LodView, a Java web application that shows attributes of the resource, the names and any inverse relations.
With the data, linked with DH goals, analyzes and interprets cultural data, preserving and protecting it while being allowed to publish it, provide access to, and share it across the web.
The end result allows for a better experience for users new and old to read the provided data that explains the connections between jazz musicians. The data is shared directly on the website while thoroughly going over the process of creating.
