“Petitioning for Freedom: Habeas Corpus in the American West, 1812-1924” isn’t yet complete, and most likely won’t be for a long time.
Law scholars and average Americans alike have already benefited from the work of the “Petitioning for Freedom” team. Law scholars have already been utilizing the database to further their studies in habeas corpus and the law. Scholarship using information from the database is linked on the PFF website. Americans who have a familial connection or a connection with the area can now easier access documents relating to their ancestors or their hometowns, compared to before the project when the data was spread out, harder to find, and harder to understand.
