Goal #1- To archive digital activism on social media
“Documenting the Now” successfully supports this goal by creating a free, accessible online database of digital activism content from social media. By utilizing tools, these social media posts are collected for anyone who may be interested in viewing them. By capturing these movements, protests and other forms of activism, DocNow preserves a record of digital activism, providing these records for future researchers, journalists and the general public.
Goal #2- To support ethical collection, use and preservation of public content on digital platforms and social media content consumer.
This project meets this goal by establishing clear ethical guidelines for how social media content should be collected and used. This project promotes ethical archiving practices by ensuring the consent and privacy of content creators, as well as activist researchers. This project encourages influencers and other social media users to consider the impact of sharing sensitive content on social media. In other words, DocNow ethically balances the need to document crucial social movements for change as well as the protection of speech and rights for content creators.
