Tools

Data Visualization Tools:The project uses advanced data visualization tools to illustrate how texts circulated across time and space. This includes the use of interactive maps and network graphs that reveal patterns of reprinting and connections between publications through which content spread across 19th-century newspapers.

Reprint Detection Algorithm: A custom built reprint detection algorithm scans thousands of historical newspapers to identify texts that were copied or slightly altered and reprinted. This tool makes it possible to track how specific texts moved through the newspaper network, both geographically and over time.

GIS Mapping and Spatial Analysis: Geographic Information Systems and spatial analysis tools allow researchers to map the movement of texts across different regions of the United States. These tools provide a visual representation of a text’s journey, showing how it traveled through various cities, states, and newspaper networks.
