The first value would be openness. In sociology openness is crucial when addressing social media’s influence on mental health. Open access to data and research, these findings allow for transparency in how social media and how it impacts different groups, plus this age where mental health challenges and solutions are openly discussed. Hopefully it can break down the stigma surrounding mental health issues and allows for more voices to contribute to the conversation, and more diverse experiences and perspectives to be considered.
Second value would be collaboration. Being able to work across disciplines; sociology, digital humanities, psychology, and even computer science, researchers can gain a better understanding of how social media platforms contribute to mental health outcomes.
