DHM280 2026
Alex T. & Holden D.
We are Alex and Holden and we are working on, “The Walt Whitman Archive” for DHM280 2026. This is the digital project we are working for project 2 in which it represents the best practices of Digital Humanities.
The Walt Whiteman Archive is a large digital research and teaching project designed to make Whiteman’s extensive body of work freely accessible in one place. Whiteman produced an enormous amount of material – including six very different editions of Leaves of Grass, thousands of manuscripts, notebooks, letters, essays, and journalistic writings
The Archive brings together items that were previously scattered across libraries around the world. Directed by Matt Cohen, Ed Folsom, and Kenneth M. Price, the project aims to create a dynamic, continually expanding digital edition that includes Whiteman’s poetry, prose, Civil War writings, correspondence, photographs, reviews, and editorial work.
Supported by major grants and partnerships with numerous institutions, the Archive provides the most comprehensive digital collection of Whiteman’s works and offers tools, editions, and resources that support both scholarly research and public engagement.
