Goals of communication / DH
The central goal of this project is modeled after the TACTik initiative, which seeks to analyze the modern news environment:
“The TACTik project studies the entire lifecycle of news on TikTok from its creative production and reporting strategies to its impact on young adults’ news interpretation and journalists’ self-perception.” – Dr. Chiao-I Tseng

Compatibility and Alignment
This goal is highly compatible with Media & Digital Communications, as both prioritize the evolution of communication technology and its societal effects. While the discipline provides the theory behind how media is consumed, TACTik applies this by tracking the journey of a message from the creator’s intent to the audience’s final interpretation.
By focusing on the lifecycle of news, we can better understand how audience perception is formed in fast-paced digital environments and develop specific tactics to improve media literacy among young consumers.
Humanities vs. Digital Media Communications Analysis
Traditional humanities research emphasizes interpretation, ethics, narrative meaning, and cultural context. Media and Digital Communications, while still connected to the humanities, adds computational tools, biometric data, and platform analytics. TACTik demonstrates that these approaches can be compatible.
- Humanities perspectives help interpret storytelling, ideology, and cultural impact.
- Digital communication methods provide measurable audience data and technological insight.
Together, they create a more complete understanding of modern media systems. This suggests strong compatibility between humanities scholarship and digital media research rather than conflict.
