One digital tool used in video game development is Unity. Unity is a game engine that developers use to create interactive 2D and 3D games. They use it to build environments, add characters, program player interactions, and create worlds that players can explore. Unity could be used to create a digital game inspired by the Games & Colonialism project. For example, developers could build a historical environment where players explore colonial history and learn about different cultural perspectives. Developers could also create interactive choices that help players understand how historical events affected different communities.
Unity can be used in Digital Humanities because it allows researchers to present history and culture through interactive digital experiences. Instead of only reading about historical events, users could explore a digital environment and interact with information. This shows how Unity can help DH researchers communicate cultural knowledge in an engaging way.
Although the MIT Game Lab project description does not confirm that it uses Unity, Unity is an example of a tool that could be used to create a digital project inspired by the project’s goals. I believe Unity can be used in Digital humanities.
