Diversity
The Cities and Memory project celebrates diversity, as it can be used as a platform for areas and individuals from all around the world to be heard. It is clear that Fowkes believes that the consumption of global sounds leads to a better understanding of global communities. The project is based on the idea that we can become more accepting of others by listening to them.
Fowkes incorporates all kinds of recordings with very little restrictions, and he prides himself on “remixing the world” and presenting “major global collaborations.” It is his hope that the project leads to a deeper understanding and appreciation of other cultures, as listeners are immersed into the city that the sound is taken from.
