AUDIENCE
Historians
The Whiskey Rebellion Project can be used by historians who are interested in the event, or the earliest days of the United States. The website, though geared towards the general public, includes an interactive map and audio tour for those studying away from the historical sites at home, from an office or museum, or school. These uses could be professional or academic in nature, since the website includes a biographical index and bibliography.
Touri
sts
The biggest audience, tourists touring the landmarks will find the project extremely helpful because of the first audio tour on the website being geared towards those physically at the locations, to listen to while they visit the sites. The audio itself is easily digestible, and accessible as well. In addition, the interactive map is user friendly, and can be accessed on the go as well.
General Public
The general public also benefits from the Whiskey Rebellion Project. As it is a digital humanities and public history project, it is convenient, easy to use, and offers the different options for different users; such as the different audio tours. It can also be used by locals for their own purposes, like in the Whiskey Rebellion Festival the local area celebrates.
DISCIPLINES
Public History
As a public historian, the maker of this project, Stephanie Townrow as made the history of the Whiskey Rebellion open, understandable, and accessible to the public. As opposed to a sign dedicated to a historical event, Townrow made a part of American History available with an in-depth look at the event.
Digital Humanities
This project owes much of its existence to the digital humanities, because, otherwise, it would simply be another paper file in an archive somewhere. With digital humanities and technology, it is able to become the easily accessible public project it was meant to be.
