Unseen Philly and its alignment to Digital Humanity Values
DH promotes open access to research, data, and tools, ensuring the democratization of knowledge and resources. It also prioritizes accessibility for all users, regardless of physical or digital boundaries. The project’s central mission is democratizing access to nature.
DH projects are inherently collaborative and often involve public knowledge by working with local institutions, community partners, and citizens. This is an example of crowdsourcing, something that Unseen Philly uses to update trail and transportation information.
The app uses GIS and detailed data to create a layered map of the Philadelphia region’s environment. GIS is a core value to presenting data in the DH world.
