Communication Sciences and Disorders
One important value in Communication Sciences and Disorders is supporting individual communication needs and progress. In the article Approaches to Speech Therapy for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Hryntsiv et al. identify “individual progress” as one of the criteria for evaluating speech therapy methods. The authors also discuss alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), that adapt to the individual needs of children with ASD.
Digital Humanties
Digital Humanities also values making knowledge more accessible through digital tools that allow information to be preserved, analyzed, and shared. Therefore, the two disciplines share a value of using technology to make communication and information more accessible and adaptable to individual needs. CSD applies this value to helping individuals communicate, while Digital Humanities applies it more broadly to making human knowledge and culture accessible through digital technology.
