Conflict Data & Digital Humanities

ACLED Data

The ACLED project is built on structured event data that records political violence, demonstrations, and other politically significant developments across the world. This page explains what ACLED’s data includes, how it is sourced and coded, how it is organized into usable formats, and why that data design matters for both conflict research and Digital Humanities.

DATA PLATFORMS

The ACLED Explorer allows you to filter and summarize data from the past year. Country profiles show data at the subnational level, as well as trends based on number of events, fatalities, and civilians exposed to violence.

CAST | Conflict Alert System

The ACLED Conflict Alert System (CAST) is a global prediction tool that forecasts the number of political violence events that will occur in each upcoming rolling-four-week period, for the next six periods, in every country around the world

Trends

ACLED Trends is a forward-looking conflict intelligence platform allowing decision-makers to anticipate where violence, unrest, and instability are most likely to escalate – before it happens. It helps organizations protect employees, secure assets, and adapt operations as risk rises or falls across locations.

Conflict Exposure Calculator

The Conflict Exposure Calculator integrates data from ACLED with population size estimates from WorldPop, to estimate the civilian impact by proximity to an event, event type, type of violent actor or specific armed group, location, and time.
