Project Goals
Make patterns understandable
To help users identify and track patterns and trends in crisis situations. This makes ACLED useful not just as a repository of information, but as an analytical platform that supports interpretation across time and place.
Document conflict and protest
A central goal of ACLED is to systematically document conflict and protest events around the world in a structured and consistent way. This goal serves researchers, analysts, and other users who need reliable event-level data rather than scattered reports.
Provide public access to data
To make conflict information accessible through digital tools such as maps, dashboards, export tools, curated files, and APIs. This aligns closely with DH’s emphasis on publishing, sharing, and providing access to cultural and social data for wider audiences.
