Project Overview: On Broadway is an interactive urban data visualization project that shows what life is like along the thirteen mile strip of Broadway Street. It transforms the street and all the data gathered along it into a vertically stacked thirteen-layer dynamic digital experience that does not rely on graphs or maps on an interactive screen. It is a multifaceted display, the data ranging from social media posts to economic data to build a narrative of this street.
The designers of the project: Daniel Goddemeyer, Moritz Stefaner, Dominikus Baur, and Lev Manovich
When and Where: Over the course of six months in 2014, On Broadway was designed research conducted primarily at Lev Manovich’s lab
Their inspiration: The artwork which directly inspired our project is Every Building on the Sunset Strip by Edward Ruscha (1966).

The above image of the colored spines is how the data started for the project, showing the designers on the project the data in a visual sense.

It was put on display at the New York Public Library 2016
