The article ‘On Broadway’ Is a Stunning, Data-Driven Portrait of Life in New York City by Emerson Rosenthal, March 9, 2015, dissects the art installation calling it “a visual metaphor for thinking about the city: a vertical stack of image and data layers.” It provides information on how they aquired their statistics and states the impressive numbers themselves such as 22 million taxi pickups in 2013. This article explains that it was inspired by Ed Ruscha’s Every Building on the Sunset Strip. A 25-foot length accordion-folded piece gives the viewer “two continuous photographic views of the mile and a half section of this landmark stretch of Sunset, one for each side of one of the city’s landmark thoroughfare.”
