Digital Humanities
Digital Humanities is the study of the intersection between computer technologies and disciplines of arts and humanities. This is an interdisciplinary field that uses a variety of digital tools and computational methods to analyze, preserve, and share human culture.
Digital Humanities is studied through the use of digital tools to analyze cultural works. Digital tools like 3D modeling, text mining, data visualization and analysis are used to study patterns across the projects and find statistics about the project that are not visible to naked eye. These tools can be used to generate word frequencies, create interactive ways to analyze the project, and provide ways to visualize data which provides a better understanding of the work as opposed to just reading it on the surface level.
Digital Humanities focuses on preserving, analyzing and sharing cultural data. This field produces digital artifacts with information about cultural works such as digital archives, databses, websites and much more. These artifacts provide a new perspective and visualizations to analyze the same works in different ways. By using digital tools to preserve cultural works, it provides wider access to cultural works, and allows people to collaborate and analyze the works in new ways.
Literature
The study of literature can be broken into two categories: study of the language and human experience Literature is the study of written works where experts analyze poetry, short stories, novels, and more to understand the common themes, historical and cultural context, and authors intent. However, literature can also be studies to understand the human experience at different time periods, human emotions based on the relationship dynamics in the story, and analyze how the plot of the story reflect real world situations.
Literature is studied through close reading of the texts by annotating, identifying different literary techniques used to provoke certain emotions, and analyzing the text through a specific lens. For instance, most people can read literature through different perspectives such as psychoanalytical, feminist, marxist, and more. Based on the lens chosen, people will have different interpretations of the same text. Close reading can also performed by reading secondary literature related to the main work such as historical commentaries, academic analyses, or other scholarly criticisms.
Literature produces written works such as plays, short stories, novels, poems, and essays. These written works often represent human beliefs and experiences, challenge some common norms, and reflect the struggles of a certain time period. Literature is cultural representation of the certain groups, or traditions. These works play a important role in influencing human beliefs and helps to put the situation around them into perspective.
