Is it beneficial for literature and digital humanities to work together?
Interdisciplinary collaboration between digital humanities and literature is beneficial because it helps promote the goals of both disciplines better. The goals of literature are to inform, to entertain, and to persuade. However, these goals will not be accomplished if the access is not provided to a wide range of people. Therefore, digital tools helps provide convenient access to literature which helps accomplish literature goals. Similarly, some goals of digital humanities include to analyze and interpret cultural data, preserve and protect culture, and provide access to cultural data. Therefore, literature provides us with cultural information and digital tools helps us preserve and access it. Additionally, digital tools provides us with new ways to analyze literature because we can analyze patterns, and relationships across texts with tools like TEI. Therefore, literature and digital humanities work together to accomplish their goals and help uncover new perspectives.
