The Cities and Memory by Stuart Fowkes is a fantastic way for common people to share what their city or town sounds like. On the flip side, it’s also a great way for users to discover sounds from places they’ve never heard of or been to. This project is so much more than submitting a sound and listening to sounds. This project connects people from all different socioeconomic backgrounds through sounds. Cities and Memory has built a magnificent community around the world that shares the same common goal of love for sound.

The Cities and Memory project aligns very well with the core best practices of digital humanities. The project encompasses open access, community collaboration, and creative reinterpretation which are all key principles of digital humanities. The project invites participants around the world to record and remix sounds, encouraging participation-based model.
