The primary technology behind Detroitography is the open‑source web development framework Gatsby (built on React) which enables fast, performant websites with rich interactive elements and mapping capabilities. By using Gatsby, Detroitography can deliver dynamic map content, embed data visualizations, and provide clear navigation for readers across different devices.
In this project, Gatsby handles the site structure, pulls in data (either via APIs or static files), and integrates with mapping libraries (e.g., Leaflet or Mapbox) to display neighborhood maps. Outside this project, Gatsby is widely used in the Digital Humanities and web development world for building data‑driven websites, blogs, and interactive exhibitions.
