Tools

DH uses a variety of digital tools for their research, which may take place in an environment as small as a mobile device or as large as a virtual reality lab. Some scholars use advanced programming languages and databases, while others use less complex tools, depending on their needs. Digital Research Tools Directory, DiRT, offers a registry of digital research tools for scholars. Text Analysis Portal for Research, TAPoR, is a gateway to text analysis and retrieval tools. There is also an online list of online or downloadable Digital Humanities tools that are largely free, aimed toward helping students and others who lack access to funding or institutional servers. Free, open source web publishing platforms like WordPress and Omekaare also popular tools.

Network Visualization Tool

This tool offers multiple interactive views of the network of jazz musicians based on the triples we’ve generated from processing transcripts. At the moment, the visualization only shows the knows of triples automatically generated by the Transcript Analyzer.

This tool runs on a browser and allows the user to choose different views of the social network and to create a customized dynamic network of selected individuals. It also displays images, videos, and short biographies of jazz musicians within the network.
