Digital humanities
It is an interdisciplinary field that uses a variety of digital tools and computational methods to analyze, preserve, and share human culture.
Goals:
-Analyze and interpret cultural data
-Preserve and protect cultural data
-Publish, provide access to, and share cultural data
How it Functions:
Digital Humanities uses digital tools and computational methods to gather, organize, analyze, preserve, and share information about human culture.
Output:
-Projects in Digital Humanities serve a dual function in the field
-Perform Research by gathering/analyzing data
-Publication of research by sharing results
-Key values and best practices emerge from these twin functions
Psychology
According to the American Public University System, “Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and behavior, focusing on how mental processes shape thoughts, feelings, and actions. It examines observable behaviors and internal processes, including how the unconscious mind influences daily life”(source). Psychology as a whole is its own ecosystem filled with smaller planets of complexity and simplicity. Psychology dives deeply into the innermost of an individual to help, inform, change, and support someone in need. The smaller planets I mentioned before are the sub-units of psychology that dive deeper into that topic and unravel its complexity on their own. For example, Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Personality Psychology, and Social Psychology are branches of Psychology.
Branches
Clinical Psychology: Focuses on diagnosing and treating mental health disorders and emotional distress(source).
Cognitive Psychology: Explores internal mental processes such as memory, perception, language, and thinking (source).
Developmental Psychology: Studies how human thought processes and behaviors change across a person’s lifespan(source).
Social Psychology: Investigates how social groups, interactions, and environments influence individual actions(source).
Personality Psychology: the unique and relatively stable pattern of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that sets one person apart from another(source).
Each branch is the study of how something affects the mind, body, and behavior through treatment, growth, interactions, and perception. For this project, the study will focus on personality.
Research Topic:
Personality Psychology addresses how individuals feel, think, and behave, in other words, the three parts of the psychological triad. The triad is very useful because it highlights the conflicts between the two. In my mind, I may know someone isn’t good for me, but in my heart, I love them so much I can’t let go. Personality Psychology contributes to the rest of psychology by showing how each interacts with the others through discovering how people are. Personality Psychology studies one’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The Big Five Perosnlaity Traits or The Five-Factor model of personality “s a hierarchical organization of personality traits in terms of five basic dimensions: Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, and Openness to Experience”(Source). These traits can be measured through questionnaires that assess how strongly a person demonstrates each trait. These measurements produce data that researchers can use to identify personality patterns and better understand individual differences in how people think, feel, and behave.
