Goals Alignment

Openness (Economics) – Economics increasingly emphasizes openness by publishing datasets and research methods publicly. Open datasets allow other researchers and the public to verify and build on existing research. Digital Humanities shares this goal by promoting open-access scholarship and publicly available digital projects. This shared commitment to openness strengthens the connection between the disciplines.

Collaboration (Economics) – Economic research often involves teams of economists, statisticians, and data scientists working together. Large-scale studies require collaboration across multiple areas of expertise. Digital Humanities similarly relies on collaboration between scholars, programmers, and designers. This shared goal of collaboration supports interdisciplinary work between Economics and Digital Humanities.

Openness (SCM) –
SCM researchers map chains to pinpoint material origins, bottlenecks, and disruption spread, as seen in Manifest’s network visualizations.

DH Alignment: DH pursues transparency via interactive digital storytelling to uncover social/ethical layers—like labor or environmental costs in logistics. Manifest exemplifies this by letting users layer qualitative stories onto SCM data, blending operational visibility with human narratives, just as our ibuprofen map traces API risks to patient impacts.

Experimentation (SCM) –
SCM scholarship builds networks that endure shocks while upholding human rights, per Liu et al.’s resilience taxonomy.

DH Alignment: DH critiques systemic inequalities and human costs through visualization, fostering discussions on equitable designs. Both use tools like GIS mapping Manifest for resilient pharma flows, DH for highlighting vulnerabilities—aligning in our project to visualize shortages and ethical backups.
