Digital Project

Digital Projects: SCM + DH Examples

We identified two exemplary digital projects using DH tools (interactive mapping/visualization) for SCM research on pharmaceutical supply chains. These show SCM applied to real-world risks via digital methods

SCM/DH Fit: Government data viz tool using charts/maps for public SCM insights – DH-style accessibility for complex logistics data.

For our digital project, we selected Manifest, a DH‑supported investigative toolkit for visualizing and documenting supply chains, production lines, and trade networks. Manifest is not a commercial logistics platform; instead, it is designed for researchers, journalists, students, and scholars who want to critically study logistics rather than operate it.

Manifest lets users map high‑level supply chain connections as well as detailed nodes like factories, ports, and materials, and it supports building both analytic views and narrative stories about how goods move. The project was funded by a Digital Humanities Advancement Grant from the U.S. National Endowment for the Humanities, showing that it is explicitly positioned as a DH project working on supply chains.

Economics

Our World In Data

Our World in Data is a digital platform that publishes interactive visualizations on global economic and social trends. It presents data on poverty, economic growth, inequality, and development using charts and digital tools. The project allows users to explore economic data and understand long-term trends. This demonstrates how Economics uses digital tools to analyze and communicate complex information, aligning with Digital Humanities methods.
