Digital humanities and finance share several important values and goals. The areas of data analysis, pattern recognition, and understanding human behavior. Finance uses information and evidence to analyze markets and make decisions based on the information. Digital humanities uses computational tools to analyze human laguage culture and historical records. Both fields identify patterns within large amounts of informational data. In the research project chosen “Media sentiment and International Asset Prices,” these fields overlap because the researchers uses a Natural Language Processing system to analyze millions of news articles and determine how positive or negative language impacts the financial markets. This demonstrates how Digital humanities methods can provide financial researchers with new ways to understand human behavior and market sentiment.
