Publication – The Changing Spaces of Dating Apps since COVID-19

The publication “The Changing Spaces of Dating Apps since COVID-19” by Abigail Trozenski explains how dating apps changed since COVID-19. To summarize, dating apps became much more popular because of COVID-19. The article starts with a brief history of dating apps, going as far back as 1993. As time went on, dating apps became more popular. In 2021, the most downloaded dating app was Tinder, with 15 million new users that year. This could be in part due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. According to an April 2020 study, 31% of the respondents used dating apps more than they have previously. During the height of the pandemic, dating apps encouraged their users to stick to meeting each other online. However, meeting in-person has regained popularity in recent years. In response to this, apps like Tinder and Bumble added a feature to let users know if someone is vaccinated or not.
