WCU Waits would operate completely on existing software. We would employ several methods to create a user interface, digital map and rewards system. These systems can be created by implementing Google Maps locally in West Chester.
Rewards System
In order to incentivise user input, the application will use both a locking feature that will block users from certain content until they contribute and a point system that unlocks cosmetic rewards.
When the app is opened, users cannot see others’ locations on the map until they input their own locations. Comments operate in the same way; they must be unlocked by commenting. Comments can also be rated by helpfulness with a simple up-voting system.
Points are accumulated in a variety of ways. A single point is gained when a user shares their location. Two points are gained for commenting, or having a user’s comments up-voted. Higher difficulty actions such as a user timing themselves in a line results in more points.
Points can be redeemed for cosmetic changes. The app could use either an avatar system that is created by the software developers or by using Bitmoji, and already designed avatar software. Points can unlock exclusive outfits, hats, clothes, etc for their avatar. Stickers and themes for the app could also be unlocked.
Comments
Comments are a practical and easy way to provide immediate feedback for the project creators. These comments are open to the public so that other audience members can keep track of local business progress, current events, and situations. Starbucks, Chic-fil-a, Einstein Bros Bagel’s, and more restaurant-related businesses can solve their problems with comments from the audience. The users also benefit by commenting because commenting can unlock a reward system. The reward system tracks a users points and they receive the points by simply participation in providing feedback.
A user can earn up to two points per comment. This can include commenting, contributing an online review, providing a location, be willing to be some of the first people to comment because someone has to go first! These comments are also convenient because time will not be wasted in lines, can help the users narrow down the choices on where to go for a date, or where to get coffee when students have 10 minutes to get to class. It is highly recommend that all of the users collaborate so they can help out local food businesses, unlock rewards and save the first world problems when it comes to going to a restaurant.
Bitmoji
A digital audience! Students love to use Bitmoji on Snapchat and on iPhone Messages. Once the users unlock the reward system, they are given the option to create a Bitmoji. This tool gives the audience a sense of achievement and encourages the users to contribute to this app. The Bitmoji award also gives the audience the desire to achieve the simple goals like unlocking new clothing. Similar to Snapmaps, with the users permission, their Bitmoji can be put on our map but will only show their location while using the app. West Chester Waits wants to show how long the lines are in each location and respect the privacy of the users.
