Discipline: Digital Marketing

The American Marketing Association defines the field as, “Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large.”

Both digital humanities and digital marketing share key similarities, including data analysis, the use of technology, and both take on an interdisciplinary approach. Both fields rely on data analysis, in different ways. The humanities focuses more on the cultural aspect, whereas marketing’s focus is aimed toward consumer behavior.

Marketing can be broken down into several sub-fields, based on the marketing strategy. In an article by Southern New Hampshire University, these different categories are explored. Here are three examples found in the article: Business to Business (B2B) and Business to Consumer (B2C)
