Boyertown business owners propose lease to save community pool | Berks Regional News | wfmz.com

This proposal was created for Project 3 in DHM 280 (Fall 2025), which asks students to design an original digital humanities project that addresses a real need in a community connected to them. We were encouraged to think about local impact, public digital tools, and building a website that communicates our idea clearly.

Right now, the Boyertown pool is closed, and the community is starting to advocate for it re-opening. The pool is not only a recreation site but it is a shared local memory space, a gathering point for families, teens, and generations of residents. With budget cuts and shifting priorities, the possibility of permanent closure threatens a long-standing piece of Boyertown’s cultural identity.

This project exists here and now because losing the pool for good would mean losing a meaningful public space and community heritage. A digital humanities project can document the pool’s cultural value, organize local knowledge, and aid current community advocacy efforts.
