Goals

The Goal of the Hoover Dam ultimately was to create a manmade spectacle to control the forces of nature for the betterment and safety of a human civilization. It has achieved that and is now one of the pinnacles of human engineering while also storing and supplying water, irrigation, providing flood control, and generating power for 3 states.

For its time it revolutionized how we approached engineering and construction, being the most ambitious project till that point. Holding a title of Tallest Dam in the world for more than two decades, recording shattering construction with 5.5 million cupid yards of material excavated, being the largest construction project of its time (4.4 million cupid yards on concrete used), and helped develop new techniques in how we now approach concrete cooling, stress analysis, hydraulic design, and structural modeling.

Its achievement has earned it the title as one of the Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders of the United States.
