Introduction

This project was made by John Ketz and Mia Buonadonna at West Chester University.
This is our second Digital Humanities project for the spring 2026 semester!

In this project we will be analyzing and reviewing structure, data, tools, and methods in the Jay-Z Mixtape project by Kenton Rambsy to see if it meets best practices in Digital Humanities.

Jay-Z, ( Shawn Carter) is a rapper from Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in the Marcy Projects, which influenced many of his lyrics about struggle and success. He later became one of the most successful artists and businessmen in hip hop.

Kenton Rambsy is an associate professor at Howard University who studies African American literature, hip hop, and culture. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College and his master’s and PhD from the University of Kansas. His work focuses on using data and digital tools to study patterns in Black literature and music, including projects like #TheJayZMixtape.
